Service changes and low priority treatments in West Herts
. A survey is currently underway for views as to whether the NHS should fund:
- over the counter medication for minor ailments such as paracetamol;
- gluten-free foods;
- vasectomies and female sterilisation;
- elective surgery for patients where they are at-risk and have not improved their lifestyle, for example smokers and obese patients. This does not relate to essential or emergency surgery.

2.IVF and specialist fertility treatment under the NHS has already been suspended.
3.The following procedures will only be offered on the NHS under exceptional medical circumstances (other medical options will be discussed) :
•Total hip replacement
•Ear grommets for children
•Hand surgery such as carpal tunnel, trigger finger and ganglions
•Back injections such as epidurals
•Total knee replacement
•Minor skin surgery which is not medically indicated
•Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (removal or tonsils and/or adenoids)
