DR TANIA GOODWIN

Qualified 1993 MB ChB, MRCGP, DFFP

Dr Goodwin works at the Harpenden Surgery, Monday and Tuesday all day and Wednesday morning. She has a special interest in dermoscopy and undertakes some minor surgery. She is trained to fit contraceptive coils and implants. She is also the practice PCN lead and is involved with the Harpenden wellbeing hub.

DR PREETESH MODI

Qualified 2005 MB BS BSc MRCGP DRCOG

Dr Modi works Monday to Wednesday and all day Friday in both surgeries. He is one of our GP trainers.

DR SHEETAL PUROHIT

Qualified 2006 MBChB MRCGP DRCOG DFSRH

Dr Purohit works at the Harpenden Surgery. Monday and Tuesday all day and Wednesday morning. She is the practice safeguarding and GDPR lead.

DR HÅVARD MOLVIK

Qualified 2004 MD MRCS MSc MRCGP

Dr Molvik works Tuesday to Friday with surgeries at both sites. He has a background in orthopaedics and carries out minor surgery and joint injections at the request of other partners. He is the lead for the practice patient participation group.

DR JOHN RAWLES

Qualified 2012 BSc (Hons), PhD, MBA, MBBS, MRCGP.

Dr Rawles works at both surgeries Monday to Thursday all day and Friday morning. He is a member of the practice management team.

DR SUJANA DATTA

Qualified 2005 MBBS BSc MRCP MRCGP

Dr Datta works at both surgeries . Wednesday mornings, Thursday and Friday all day. She is a GP trainer and is the practice prescribing lead and cancer lead.

DR FARAH DASS

Qualified 2012 MBBS BSC MRCGP

Dr Dass works in both surgeries Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday mornings. She has a special interest in mental health, minor surgery and administers joint injections.

DR LOUISE PLUMTREE

Dr Plumtree works all day Monday, Tuesday and on Wednesday morning in both surgeries. She has a special interest in dermatology.

DR EMMA WRIGHT

Dr Wright is a salaried GP and works in the Harpenden surgery on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Paramedic

We have two paramedics working in the practice, one of whom works in all 3 Harpenden practices. They are able to deal with any acute medical problems.

EMILY WESTON-ROSS

Qualifications: Foundation degree paramedic science 2015 Minor illness/injury/advanced assessment-2019/20 Independent prescribing- 2021

Emily is a trained paramedic who works for us an urgent care practitioner. She is able to prescribe and see patients with minor illnesses.

LUKE HINDMARCH

Luke is a trained paramedic who works in all 3 Harpenden Practices for the PCN. He sees patients with minor illness.

Nurses

Our practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses who can help with a wide range of health issues. Some of the services they offer include advice about family planning, healthy-living advice and smoking cessation. They also run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes. They can perform immunisations, blood pressure checks, cervical smears, ECGs (tracings of the heart), lung function tests, dressings, suture removals, ring pessary changes and much more.

Healthcare Assistants

Our health care assistants support our practice nurses and GPs to carry out a variety of different checks including NHS health checks, some long term condition checks, smoking cessation, ear syringing and assisting the GPs in minor surgery and contraceptive procedures.

FIONA DAY

Fiona is one of our healthcare assistants who carries out a variety of different procedures such as BP, pulse and urine checks, as well as ECGs, ear syringing, smoking cessation, diabetic checks and health checks.

Menopause Nurse

Kirsten is an experienced nutritionist and nurse. Her specialist skills in menopause allow more focussed time and expertise for patients with specific queries. She works in all 3 Harpenden practices two evenings a week and one Saturday each month offering both remote and face to face appointments.

ANITA MIXIDES

Practice Manager

Anita is our practice manager. Her role is to ensure that the practice runs smoothly, co-ordinating and organising the team to provide the best service possible, while responding to the constant changes in General practice. She will help you with any administrative problems and is pleased to receive any suggestions you may have about improving the services available. Anita has worked at the Village Surgery since 2008.

Elaine is our deputy practice manager who is a vital part of the practice management team. She is responsible for the day to day running of the practice alongside the practice manager and the business manager.

Jane ensures patients are invited for annual checks of chronic disease (eg diabetes) to ensure their conditions are managed and monitored appropriately.

Lyn heads our EzeDoc and coding team. It is an important department which ensures patient letters from hospitals, 111, A&E are added to patients notes and correctly coded

Reception

There are over 15 receptionists working across both sites. Our team of receptionists are here to help you make appointments to see the Doctors, Nurses and other healthcare practitioners. They also help you with other questions you may have about our services and your healthcare. If they cannot answer a query, they will find someone who can and will ensure your question is answered. They also help us to provide additional support for our more vulnerable patients eg Carers and Clinically extremely vulnerable patients.

Secretaries

We have four medical secretaries working across the two sites. They help to manage everything to do with hospital referrals and appointments, as well as requests for medical records, insurance reports etc.

Care co-ordinators

Care coordinators provide extra time, capacity, and expertise to support patients in preparing for or in following up clinical conversations they have with primary care professionals. They work closely with the GPs and other primary care professionals within the PCN to identify and manage a caseload of identified patients, making sure that appropriate support is made available to them and their carers, and ensuring that their changing needs are addressed. They focus on delivery of personalised care to reflect local PCN priorities, health inequalities or groups of patients identified through risk stratification. Dietican

Dietitians are healthcare professionals that diagnose and treat diet and nutritional problems, both at an individual patient and wider public health level. Working in a variety of settings with patients of all ages, dietitians support changes to food intake to address diabetes, food allergies, coeliac disease, and metabolic diseases. Dietitians also translate public health and scientific research on food, health, and disease into practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices. First Contact Practitioner

First Contact Practitioners (FCP) are qualified autonomous clinical practitioners who can assess, diagnose, treat, and manage musculoskeletal (MSK) problems and undifferentiated conditions and, where appropriate, discharge a person without a medical referral. FCPs working in this role can be accessed directly by patients, or staff in GP practices can refer patients to them to establish a rapid and accurate diagnosis and management plan to streamline pathways of care. Health and wellbeing coach

Health and Wellbeing Coaches (HWBCs) will predominately use health coaching skills to support people to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become active participants in their care so that they can reach their own health and wellbeing goals. They may also provide access to self-management education, peer support and social prescribing. Health and Wellbeing Coaches will support people to self-identify existing issues and encourage proactive prevention of new and existing illnesses. This approach is based on using strong communication and negotiation skills and supports personal choice and positive risk taking. They will work alongside people to coach and motivate them through multiple sessions, supporting them to identify their needs, set goals, and help them to implement their personalised health and care plan. Pharmacists

Clinical Pharmacists work in primary care as part of a multidisciplinary team in a patient facing role to clinically assess and treat patients using expert knowledge of medicines for specific disease areas. They will be prescribers, or if not, are working to complete an independent prescribing qualification following completion of the 18-month CPPE pathway. They work with and alongside the general practice team, taking responsibility for patients with chronic diseases and undertaking clinical medication reviews to proactively manage people with complex polypharmacy, especially for the elderly, people in care homes and those with multiple comorbidities. Physicians' Associate

Physician Associates are healthcare professionals with a generalist medical education, who work alongside doctors providing medical care as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. Physician Associates are dependent practitioners who work under the supervision of a fully trained and experienced GP. They bring new talent add to the skill mix within teams, providing a stable, generalist section of the workforce which can help ease the workforce pressures that primary care currently faces. Social prescribing link worker

Link workers give people time and focus on what matters to the person as identified in their care and support plan. They connect people to community groups and agencies for practical and emotional support. Link workers typically work with people over 6-12 contacts (including phone calls and meetings) over a three-month period with a typical caseload of up to 250 people, depending on the complexity of people’s needs. District Nurses

Our team of district nurses have great and wide-ranging experience in giving nursing care in the community. Health Visitors

Health visitors provide support and advice to families with children under five years old. They can help with mental, physical and social wellbeing. Midwives

Provision for expectant mothers is given in our weekly antenatal clinics by our two district midwives who also give care in the home for newly-delivered mothers and their babies.

Macmillan and Rennie Grove Nurses

We work closely with our local specialised nursing team, who provide care and support for those with cancer or another end-stage illness.
